Acquiring a new chain is always a challenge for any retailer. For a German multinational company, one of the largest supermarket chains in the world, this challenge was even greater. When acquiring a French discount retailer, it needed to renegotiate and unify the communication of 550 new units to its chain. Moreover, the chain had time against it, since the acquisition took place close to Christmas and the launch was scheduled for December of the same year.
Solution
To solve this challenge, the German company used Neogrid's Sourcing solution. In order to deliver everything working seamlessly within eight weeks, it was necessary to expand the implementation activities, as the German chain has 1000 SKUs on the platform and more than 400 suppliers.
As the new acquisition increased the number of the chain stores on French soil by 50%, many renegotiations with suppliers on pricing and products needed to be done efficiently - and, for this, Soucing made a huge difference. The agility provided by Sourcing, by solving everything in one place, was essential to organize negotiations with suppliers and supply points of sale. Other improvements also stood out, such as providing initial insights into capacity constraints to make alternative plans; reducing the time spent by buyers, through a platform to facilitate communication with suppliers and price negotiations (automation); and, finally, collecting responses for management tracking and savings versus target reports.
